BAK(ELSEN) is a work of art you can eat.

Can a pastry talk about consent?

​

It began with a question about consent, bodily autonomy and the right to pleasure without harming another.

​

The form was created from a 3D scan of my own body and cast in silicone to create a mould for a pastry,  turning the body into something both intimate and public, edible and sculptural.

​

The pastry premiered in Uppsala in 2022 and has since been developed as an ongoing project. Each pastry chef or baker who takes on the mould is invited to interpret the work through their own craft, taste and local context.

​

The work is made to travel.

​

A shared mould makes it possible for Bak(elsen) to take different forms while remaining connected to the original work. A percentage of sales supports Kvinna till Kvinna (English version) and its work for women's rights.

​

Bak(elsen) can be presented at cafés, bakeries, museums, festivals, conferences, private events and other contexts where food can become a starting point for conversation.

​

The work is available for collaboration and licensing.
